The Harkins Community Memorial Foundation was founded in 2004 by Marva Brown, the grandmother of James Lesley Harkins, who tragically lost his life in a drowning accident. Driven by her compassionate spirit, Marva created the foundation to support families in crisis, helping with funeral costs and other urgent needs.
Since its inception, the foundation has expanded its mission to celebrate and recognize the contributions of youth in the Rockford area. To date, it has provided financial assistance to over 50 families, honored numerous young people through annual youth awards, and offered support to countless others during difficult times.
